Russian court schedules trial date for WNBA star Brittney Griner

WNBA star Brittney Griner's trial in Russia has been scheduled to begin on July 1.

SEANA SMITH: Turning to another story out of Russia that we're following, a court there setting the start date for the trial of WNBA star Brittany Griner for this Friday, no more than four months after she was arrested in Moscow for alleged cannabis possession. Griner has been ordered to remain in custody for the duration of her criminal trial and could face up to 10 years in prison. If convicted, the US State Department has classified Griner as, quote, "wrongfully detained," though US officials and the WNBA have generally kept pretty quiet about her arrest.
