Russian diplomats accidentally show Crimea as part of Ukraine
The Russian Embassy in South Africa found itself in an uncomfortable position after inadvertently revealing that the Crimean Peninsula, claimed by Russia, is not actually its territory.

“Reflecting the realities of the new multipolar world,” read the accompanying caption, as Russian diplomats spoke about the expansion of the BRICS grouping of countries.
However, as dissent began to come in from Russian social media uses – questioning why they were suddenly “deprived” of the peninsula – the candid post was swiftly deleted.
Russia falsely claims to have annexed Crimea, which remains part of Ukrainian territory according to international law.
The Ukrainian territory has been under Russian military occupation since being invaded by Russian forces in late February 2014.
