Russian Flag Raised on Border Tower Destroyed by Ukrainian Drone, Officials Say

Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service (SBGS) released video on May 3 showing the destruction of a Russian flag that they said was raised on a Ukrainian observation tower a few meters from the Ukrainian-Russian border in Sumy Oblast.

Roman Tkach, a spokesperson for the Sumy branch of the SBGS, said Russian forces had raised the flag under the cover of darkness and, to prevent Ukrainian border guards removing it, positioned snipers close to the tower, according to a statement from the border service.

Instead of approaching the tower, border guards launched a quadcopter carrying explosives, flew it above the tower, and dropped the explosives down, destroying the flag, Tkach said.
