Russian forces attempt to break through in Sumy Region: a border guard killed in battle

On 16 May, border guard Oleksandr Popovchenko was killed in a battle with a sabotage and reconnaissance group of Russian soldiers.

Details: It is known that Popovchenko was a second-ranked inspector of the border service. He had 10 years of experience in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine; last year he quit after the end of his contract.

After the full-scale invasion of Russia, he decided to extend his service, and was drafted into the Hlukhiv department of the Border Service.

The Hlukhiv resident was mortally wounded in a battle with an enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group in the early morning.

The 44-year-old border guard is survived by his wife and two children.

Background: On the morning of 16 May, the Russian army opened fire on the territory of the Sumy region near the border with the Russian Federation, and saboteurs tried to enter the territory of Ukraine.
