Russian gas transit through Ukraine hits record high since year-start
The Gas Transmission System (GTS) Operator of Ukraine accepted an application from Russian gas monopolist Gazprom for the transit of 42.2 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas on Feb. 22. Transit on Feb. 21 was 40.3 mcm.

Imports of the Russian gas are to come through only one of two entry points to the GTS of Ukraine – the Sudzha gas measuring station. At the same time, Ukraine did not accept the application for the transit through the Sokhranivka gas measuring station.

According to Interfax-Ukraine, warm weather has caused a significant drop in gas prices in Europe. The day-ahead contract at the TTF hub in the Netherlands closed at $544 per 1,000 cubic meters on Feb. 21.
On Jan. 19, Gazprom sharply reduced gas transit through Ukraine.
According to the current contract under the “pump or pay” formula, Gazprom undertook to pump 40 billion cubic meters of gas per year, or about 109 mcm per day, through the GTS of Ukraine.
