Russian MiG-31K interceptor jet conducts training flight with Kinzhal hypersonic missile in Belarus

Belaruski Hajun, an independent Belarusian military monitoring media outlet has reported that they received photo proof that a Russian MiG-31K interceptor jet, which was flying over Belarus, escorted with a fighter jet, conducted a training flight while carrying a X-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missile.

Quote from Belaruski Hajun: "The Belaruski Hajun monitoring outlet has photo proof that MiG-31K of the Russian Aerospace Forces with a registration number RF-92339, which was flying over Belarus accompanied by a fighter jet from Baranovichi [airfield], was conducting flights with a X-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missile on board."

Details: The outlet highlighted that this photo confirms for the first time that MiG-31 with the number RF-92339 was converted to a K modification [i.e., it can carry Kinzhal missiles – ed.]; previously, such information was revealed only about the MiG-31 with number RF-92462.

Belaruski Hajun suggested that the third MiG-31K with the number RF-92333, which is deployed at Machulishchy airfield can also carry Kinzhals and is capable of launching them from a distance of 2,000 kilometres.

Background:

  • Earlier, Norwegian outlet Faktisk posted satellite images of the Machulishchy airfield that Planet Labs company made on 18 October and 31 October at 10:41 (Kyiv time). The photos show that three MiG-31K interceptor jets of the Russian Air Force, which can carry Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, are still at the Machulishchy airfield in Belarus.

  • Later, it was reported that tents with Russian military personnel appeared at the training grounds of Belarus in addition to Russian MiG-31K jet interceptors and containers where Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missiles might be stored.
