The Russian Defense Ministry said on October 4 that a new hypersonic missile had been successfully test-fired from a nuclear-powered submarine in the Barents Sea for the first time.
The Russian Navy test-launched the Tsirkon hypersonic missile from the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine, the ministry said.
The test was considered a success, the ministry said, as the missile hit the mock target.
According to local reports, the Tsirkon missile’s launch was conducted from the water’s surface. Test launches of the underwater version of the Tsirkon hypersonic missile are also planned for October and November, according to TASS news agency.
