Hayday said the invaders are increasingly trying to conduct reconnaissance of Ukrainian front line defenses in the region.

The Russians are also more actively using ground attack aircraft on the front lines – three settlements near the front were targeted by the airstrikes overnight.

“Enemy artillery opened fire seven times at night,” Hayday said. “Four times the Russians shelled towns and villages with multiple launch rocket systems, and six times with mortars. Four tank offensives were carried out. On Aug. 14, eight enemy attacks were successfully repelled.”

“Our military neutralized a reconnaissance group of the Russian forces.”

For more than a month, Russian troops have been trying to reach the administrative borders of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. The Ukrainian army continues to hold positions in two settlements in Luhansk oblast.

Hayday said that even with a significant advantage in weapons, the Russian invaders are not able to make the progress they expected in their offensive in the Donbas.

Russian troops have been unable to capture the last few square kilometers of the oblast for several weeks. At the same time, they are razing villages in the oblast to the ground, completely destroying some settlements.
