Russian troops have locked down occupied Kreminna, Luhansk Oblast, amid a counterintelligence operation, harassing local residents and searching their homes, General Staff spokesman Andriy Kovalyov said on national television on Oct. 31.

"Russian terrorists in Kreminna were conducting counterintelligence activities, checking the documents of the civilian population, and searching private houses and farm buildings, even ditches," Kovalyov said.

The Russians launched the operation as they believed Ukrainian Special Forces had infiltrated the town, Kovalyov said.
