A Russian woman from Nizhny Novgorod faces pre-trial detention for donning colorful earrings, labeled as an “extremist accessory” by the Kremlin due to their resemblance to LGBT symbolism, Astra Telegram channel reported on Feb. 1 citing a court decision.

“The earrings are shaped like frogs and painted in seven rainbow colors. The LGBT pride flag has six colors,” comments under the published photos note.

The detainee asserted no ties to banned Russian organizations, claiming a preference for colorful things. Despite her explanation, she was arrested for five days.

Even Alexander Hinstein, one of the authors of the controversial bill banning LGBT activities, expressed surprise at the absurdity of the court decision.

“It’s unclear what this has to do with LGBT. I hope the next court instance overturns this decision,” as quoted by Russian propaganda.
