Russians’ claims about advances near Vuhledar, Orikhiv ‘misinformation,’ says UK intelligence

According to UK intelligence, over the last six days, various Russia media sources have begun to claim that Russian forces have made significant advances, breaking through Ukrainian defences in two areas: in Zaporizhzhya Oblast near Orikhiv, and 100km to the east, in Donetsk Oblast, near Vuhledar.

“Russian units have probably conducted local, probing attacks near Orikhiv and Vuhledar, but it is highly unlikely that Russia has actually achieved any substantive advances,” the ministry said in its daily summary.

The MoD also noted that there is a realistic possibility that Russian military sources are deliberately spreading misinformation in an effort to imply that the “Russian operation is sustaining momentum.”

Ukraine’s General Staff reported on Jan. 27 that the Defense Forces had repelled enemy attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts over the past day.
