Details: According to Sobolevskyi, law enforcement officers in Hola Prystan will interview locals regarding the murder of Oleksii Kovalov [a former member of the Ukrainian parliament who had sided with Russia - ed.] the day before.

Quote from Sobolevskyi: "There is information that today the ‘Orcs’ [Russian soldiers - ed.] are planning to carry out filtering activities in Hola Prystan.

Additional forces have been sent there; checks and searches of the residents will be conducted."

Background: On the evening of 28 August, it became known that Kovalov had been killed in occupied Kherson Oblast.

Previously:

  • In early April, Kovalov wrote that he was in Hola Prystan despite the Russian occupation, stating intentions to "work in his district." The State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings against him.

  • On 3 May, Kovalov was expelled from the Sluha Narodu [Servant of the People] parliamentary faction. When Kovalov admitted on 8 June that he was cooperating with the Russian occupiers in Kherson Oblast, the Sluha Narodu faction urged the Verkhovna Rada to strip him of his mandate.

  • On 22 June, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Chief Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, confirmed that a car belonging to people's deputy Oleksii Kovalov was blown up in Kherson Oblast. On 30 June, in an interview with Russian propagandists, Kovalov said that he survived the assassination attempt.

  • According to the State Bureau of Investigations, in early July, Kovalov assumed the office of Deputy Head of the "Government of Kherson Oblast", which was illegally created by the occupying administration of the aggressor state.

  • On 6 July, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine informed Kovalov of suspicion. He was declared wanted. Kovalov's property was transferred to ARMA [National Agency of Ukraine for finding, tracing and management of assets derived from corruption and other crimes; abbr. - Asset Recovery and Management Agency or ARMA].
