Russia's art exhibition under frozen water

This is an art exhibition under the frozen White Sea

Location: Nilmoguba, Russia

The art was pulled under the ice cold water

to make a statement on climate change

(SOUNBITE) (Russian) PHOTOGRAPHER, VIKTOR LYAGUSHKIN, SAYING:"It is well known that the climate is changing, despite the fact that it is -30 Celsius today. The White Sea is the southernmost of all Arctic seas. It changes very fast. It may happen that creatures, whose life is frozen under the ice, will become extinct in the White Sea in the near future. That is why we are taking pictures of them and exposing them underwater, to let them survive at least through the photographs, before they become extinct."

Visitors have to don a diving suit

and swim under cold water to see the exhibition

(SOUNBITE) (Russian) MIKHAIL KHROBYSTOV, DIVER, SAYING:"The pictures are cool. I saw them before, but under the sea they look different. The effect is very interesting, with the light of a torch they begin to shine and look three dimensional."
