Russia's McDonald's successor eyes overseas move

STORY: Russia’s replacement for McDonald’s could be eyeing expansion abroad.

The government in Kazakshtan said Monday (January 16) that Vkusno & tochka has applied to register its trademarks there.

That’s the firm that took over McDonald’s outlets in Russia last year.

The U.S. firm exited from its operations there following the start of the conflict in Ukraine.

Its former outlets were rebranded Vkusno & tochka from June onwards.

Now McDonald’s has departed from Kazakhstan too.

It terminated an agreement with its licensee there this month.

The fast food chain cited supply issues for the move.

Reuters sources say McDonald’s Kazakhstan had stopped buying supplies from Russia, and had had trouble replacing them.

Vkusno & tochka did not respond to Reuters requests for comment on its overseas plans.
