The Russo Brothers have opened up on their time working on thriller series Citadel, branding the cast the best they have worked with.

The star-studded spy series, which will premiere on April 28 on Prime Video, sees a group of agents from the fallen Citadel global spy agency reunite as a new crime syndicate, Manticore, must be stopped.

The action-packed programme stars the likes of Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, Stanley Tucci, Ashley Cummings, Roland Møller and Lesley Manville.

And as well as being packed full of huge names, it seems as if the cast was a pleasure to work with as executive producers Joseph and Anthony Russo laud the cast as the best they've worked with.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the Russo brothers poured praise on the show's stars, with Joseph saying: "We have had the good fortune of working with a lot of great casts in our career, but this is the best cast."

Anthony added: "I've never heard Joe say that before. The essential nature of what Joe and I have done throughout our careers is collaboration with one another. So we're hyper-aware of the value of collaboration and creative process, and we're addicted to it. Love it.

"So we couldn't be more tuned into the fabulous talent that is this show. It was a critical piece of the puzzle in this show. Because it is so big and because it is so ambitious."

Earlier this month, Chopra spoke about the gruelling fight training the stars of the show underwent.

Speaking on The One Show, the Quantico star explained that she did most of her own stunts for the new series – and she received quite a few bumps and bruises in the process.

"When you do stunts, you will get banged up and bruised a little bit even though we worked with the best stunt teams in the world, they've done like the Bond series, they've done Mission Impossible, so everything was really protected," she said.

"But I did do most of my stunts myself because we're not superheroes in this. We're real people. So real people bleed, they get hurt and the Russo brothers really wanted the actors to like be front and centre, so you have a visceral reaction when you see my face get punched out or something."

Citadel starts streaming on Prime Video on April 28.
