Russo's Italian Deli Replacing Tacos Giselle On Plainfield Road

CREST HILL, IL — The Tacos Giselle restaurant at 2424 Plainfield Road became one of the coronavirus restaurant casualties, but a replacement restaurant is opening shortly. Russo's Authentic Italian Deli and Cafe plans to open along Route 30 during the week of Thanksgiving or the first week of December, restaurant representatives informed Joliet Patch on Monday.

Sara Russo said her new restaurant will offer about a dozen varieties of Italian submarine sandwiches. She said they will serve vegetarian subs, pasta dishes, Italian desserts and more. The Tacos Giselle Mexican Restaurant closed a few months ago.

"It's going to be sit-down and carryout," Russo told Patch. "We were looking around ... I think it's a really good location."

Russo's Italian Deli hopes to draw its customer base from Crest Hill, Joliet and Plainfield as well as Shorewood and Romeoville. Besides sub sandwiches, there will be a variety of salads available.

Russo's will offer some authentic Italian groceries including cookies and canned tomato pastas. "We will sell dough for pizza, we're not doing pizzas just yet," Russo said.

In addition, Russo's will be making homemade fresh mozzarella that customers can buy.

During the first month of its grand opening, Russo's plans to stay open seven days a week. Eventually, Russo's will probably close one day of the week.

Russo's said it will be offering catering services for its foods including submarine sandwich trays, lasagnas and desserts.
