Rutgers plans to open addiction treatment center at Plainfield's old Muhlenberg Hospital

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care is planning to open an addiction treatment center at the former Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield.

The Rutgers Center for Recovery and Wellbeing recently received city Planning Board approval. The license application is currently under review by the state Department of Health, according to a Rutgers spokesperson.

City officials did not respond to a request for comment.

The facility will provide comprehensive, holistic and integrated diagnostic and clinical care to individuals and their families who are affected by substance use and co-occurring disorders, the Rutgers spokesperson said.

It also will offer medically monitored withdrawal management, inpatient treatment and intensive outpatient services including individual, group and family counseling, while also being a hub for research and training in addiction treatment, the spokesperson said.
