Ruth Bader Ginsburg Thanks U.S. Women's Soccer Team for Jersey: 'My Favorite for Biweekly Workouts'

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has a special new workout top.

The Supreme Court justice, 86, wrote a letter to the United States women’s national soccer team on March 29, after she was gifted a special jersey with her name on it that defender Becky Sauerbrunn had worn during the team’s SheBelieves Cup.

And on Friday, Sauerbrunn, 33, shared the thoughtful letter on Twitter, captioning it, “Notorious.”

“For the surprise package received today, huge thanks,” Ginsburg wrote. “I am proud to be among the women chosen for recognition in the 2019 SheBelieves game against England.”

Ginsburg added, “The jersey will be my favorite for the biweekly workouts that keep me in shape.”

During the SheBelieves Cup match against England on March 2, every player on the women’s soccer team wore a jersey with the last name of a woman who inspires them.

Among the famous women chosen for the honor included Jennifer Lawrence, Cardi B and Serena Williams.

“She’s a complete rock star,” Sauerbrunn said of her decision to wear Ginsburg’s name. “Dissenting opinion, battling cancer and then showing up to vote… what can’t she do? I just think she’s amazing.”

Despite her busy schedule and recent health scares, Ginsburg is known for her dedication to working out.

In December 2018, she had cancer removed from her left lung. Her trainer Bryant Johnson told PEOPLE at the time that the justice’s only concern after surgery was when she could go back to hitting the gym.

Johnson told PEOPLE the secret to her fitness is the justice’s dogged determination, evidenced by her training twice a week for at least an hour and never saying “I can’t.”

“Even this, she is going through this, she asked me, ‘When can we go back to training?’ ” he said.

Their routine, outlined in Johnson’s book The RBG Workout, includes planks, 20 full push-ups, arm and leg work using dumbbells and machines and bodyweight exercises.

“Her attitude is, ‘When is the next time I can work out?’ ” Johnson added. “No matter what, it is, ‘When can we work out?’”
