Did Hannah send the wrong man to prison in Ruth Ware’s new psychological thriller “The It Girl”?

Ware’s seventh book, and her first in nearly two years, focuses on Hannah and her time at Oxford University, where her best friend was rich, vivacious, pretty and occasionally cruel April Clarke-Cliveden, the ultimate, popular “it” girl. By the end of the first term they were best friends also with Will, Hugh, Ryan and Emily.

When Hannah finds April dead in their apartment, her testimony sends former Oxford porter John Neville to prison for murder.

A decade later, married to Will and expecting their first child, Hannah is contacted by a young journalist who presents new evidence that Neville may have been innocent. As Hannah delves into the past, she learns that the people she thought were her friends have secrets to hide — including a murder.

Ware, who lives in Sussex, on the south coast of England, has garnered a host of fans for her previous books, including bestsellers “In A Dark, Dark Wood,” “The Woman in Cabin 10,” and “The Turn of the Key.”

“The It Girl” has drawn praise from critics, including starred reviews from Publishers Weekly (“exceptional … psychological thriller…”) and Booklist (“…riveting.”).

Ware will discuss and sign copies of her book at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Hennepin County-Southdale Area Library, 7001 York Ave. S., Edina, in a free program presented by Valley Bookseller of Stillwater. For information go to meetup.com/literature-lovers-night-out/events/286576826/.
