EVANSVILLE — Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Ryan Adams announced Monday his solo tour has been postponed, citing health issues.

Adams was set to open his fall solo tour at Evansville's Victory Theatre on Sept. 5. The tour would take place between dates with his band, The Cardinals.

In his message to fans via his Facebook page, Adams said in his solo shows he typically plays three hours or more.

"I have to play the long game here so I can keep playing for you as long as I can," he stated. "For me to be at my best, I have to recover from what has been a relentless spell of illness."

He thanked his sobriety for being his anchor as he's struggled with illness off stage.

"...as year two approaches I thank God for that clarity," he said.

The tour was set to be a part of a comeback attempt for Adams, as the Courier & Press reported earlier this year. In a 2019 New York Times article, seven women, including singer Phoebe Bridgers and Adams' ex-wife Mandy Moore, accused him of harassment and manipulation. Some said he would pursue them romantically and then hinder their careers when they rejected him.

Adams apologized in a 2020 open letter.

Adams said the solo shows will be rescheduled, as many as possible, for 2024.

"I am so sorry to all the folks who have already bought tickets and we're excited for the solo shows," he stated.

The Cardinals tour is set as scheduled to start in the fall.

"Rest assured ... I aim to be in top fighting condition for The Cardinals fall tour and hope to see some of you there," he said.
