Naya Rivera's ex-husband Ryan Dorsey has shared a moving tribute to the actress on what would have been her 34th birthday. Posting a black-and-white photograph of he and his former wife, along with their young son Josey, Ryan wrote: "Just as surreal as it is real that you're gone. If that makes sense, but none of this still makes any sense."

The post continued: "34..I could just hear you saying 'Ah, I'm old AF now!' Ha...Rest easy old lady..." alongside some heart and shooting star emojis. Naya's birthday comes six months after she passed away during a boating trip with her son in California.

The mother-and-son took a trip to Lake Piru on 8 July, where they rented a boat for the afternoon. The pair both got out and swam in the lake - but only Josey, who was wearing his life jacket when he was discovered in the vessel, returned. The other, adult-sized life jacket was found unused in the boat along with the child.

Josey was discovered alone and asleep in a drifting boat, while his 33-year-old mother was nowhere to be seen. Following a days-long search, Naya Rivera's body was eventually found near the surface of the water. Her cause of death was later confirmed as drowning.

In the months after the Glee actress' sad death, her former partner launched legal proceedings to sue the Venutra County local authority for wrongful death on behalf of Josey. Papers filed claimed there was not adequate safety equipment on the boat, and suggested there was not enough warning about the dangers of swimming in the lake where the actress drowned. There have not yet been any public developments on the case.

In the aftermath of her untimely death, Ryan Dorsey paid his public respects to Naya Rivera on Instagram. He wrote: "This is so unfair...there's not enough words to express the hole left in everyone's hearts. I can't believe this is life now. I don't know if I'll ever believe it."

"Life just isn't fair. I don't know what to say...I'm thankful for our times and our journey that brought us together and gave us the sweetest and kindest smart little boy we could ever hope for. [He will] know his momma loved him more than life, and how much fun we had together as he was growing up."
