Ewan McGregor is headed to the grit and glamour of 1970s Manhattan as fashion designer Halston.

“Halston,” the Netflix limited series from executive producer Ryan Murphy, will premiere on May 14, the streaming service announced Friday on what would have been the designer’s 89th birthday.

Born Roy Halston Frowick in Des Moines, Iowa, the designer rocketed to fame in the ‘70s and ‘80s with minimalist fashion, dressing everyone from Jackie Kennedy to Liza Minnelli.

“‘Halston’ follows the legendary fashion designer as he leverages his single, invented name into a worldwide fashion empire that’s synonymous with luxury, sex, status and fame, literally defining the era he lives in, 1970′s and ’80′s New York — until a hostile takeover forces him to battle for control of his most precious asset… the name Halston itself,” the show’s logline reads.

The designer died in 1990 from complications due to AIDS, which he was diagnosed with just two years earlier.

The series also stars Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, Rebecca Dayan as Elsa Peretti, Bill Pullman as David Mahoney, Gian Franco Rodriguez as Victor Hugo, David Pittu as Joe Eula, Sullivan Jones as Ed Austin, Rory Culkin as Joel Schumacher, Kelly Bishop as Eleanor Lambert and Vera Farmiga as Adele.
