Ryan Murphy’s The Politician trailer is filling the Tracy Flick-shaped hole in our lives

The trailer for The Politician is finally here, and it’s basically Glee meets Election with major Scream Queens energy. The eight-episode series, which is the first of many new Netflix shows to come from Ryan Murphy, sees Ben Platt go full Tracy Flick as high school student Payton Hobart, who “fully intends” to be president someday. But unlike Reese Witherspoon’s character, this protagonist is the perfect combination of sweet and ruthless. Unfortunately, he might also be a murderer.

The clip, which dropped on Monday, August 19th, teases Payton dealing with cutthroat competition, scandalous rumors, as well as a little blood and a lot of backstabbing. Even his mother, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, is afraid of his unwavering ambition. However, he’s not the only one willing to do whatever it takes to win, even if it means exploiting people, committing voter fraud, and being politically incorrect.
