Ryan Reynolds is making a boy band comedy

Deadpool 3 duo Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy are set to make a comedy for Paramount Pictures.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the multi-hyphenate Hollywood megastar co-wrote the movie (working title Boy Band) alongside Jesse Andrews of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

Levy is officially down as an executive producer through 21 Laps Entertainment, but may also step behind the camera as director, depending on scheduling.

Further details about Boy Band are scarce, other than it being about a band reunion.

Reynolds, who took a left-field turn by co-purchasing Wrexham AFC in November 2020, has previous in the musical world, thanks to last year's Apple TV+ release Spirited.

In Digital Spy's two-star review, we wrote: "Outside of the songs, Spirited is a mixed bag. There are some genuinely unexpected plot developments and the world of the ghosts is often inventively crafted, but the gags are hit-and-miss, too reliant on the now-standard Reynolds glib aside.

"[Will] Ferrell and Reynolds make for a watchable and charismatic leading duo, even if their singing might not be winning any awards."

Meanwhile, the Canadian actor and his frequent collaborator Levy (they made both The Adam Project and Free Guy together) are cruising towards production on Deadpool 3, which heralds Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine.

"It's too fun. I'm having so much fun, and I haven't even hit the shooting floor yet," said the director just a couple of months ago.

"I have to say, developing a Deadpool movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life. It's not just that it's rated R, it's that it's so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to that franchise."

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+, and also available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray. Deadpool 3 has a release date of September 6, 2024.
