Rye, Greenland, Newington 2023 election results: Voters in approving mood

Voters in Rye, Newington and Greenland headed to the polls Tuesday in the midst of a snowstorm.

Here's a town-by-town look at results:

Rye elects new selectman, approve union contracts and budgets

Two three-year seats on the School Board went to Michelle Wheeler (638 votes) and incumbent Matt Curtin (517). They defeated Danielle Maxwell (407) and Bruce Valley (190).

Voters approved the school district operating budget of $16.58 million and an additional $131,408 to meet year 2023-2024 of a contract approved in 2019 between the district and the Rye Educational Support Personnel Association.

Three candidates looked to replace outgoing selectman Phil Winslow. Bob McGrath won a three-year term with 564 votes, defeating Cathy Hodson (536) and Bruce Valley (30).

Voters approved a $11.99 million budget, as well as a two-year contract for the firefighters union and three-year contracts for the police union and the town employees union.

Two three-year library trustee seats went to Dania Seiglie and Michael Moody, who ran unopposed on the ballot.

Greenland voters elect School Board members, approve budgets

Two incumbents, Katie Curtis and Patrick Walsh, were re-elected to serve three-year terms on the Greenland School Board in a contested race. They defeated four challengers: Timothy Moynahan, Jim Rolston, Terese Wall and Douglas Wilson.

All warrants and budgets passed in Greenland Tuesday.

On the town ballot, voters approved the operating budget request for $6.14 million. They also gave the green light to adding a new firefighter position.

The $13.3 million school district budget was approved, too, as was a two-year agreement with the Greenland Support Staff Association.

In the race for the town budget committee, winning three-year seats were Frank Hansler, Jenna Raizes and Timothy Moynahan.  They defeated Michael Catapano and Michael Skinner.

Newington officials elected with town and school meetings coming Saturday

Newington races were all uncontested on Tuesday's ballot. This included Christian Wayss as selectman, Doreen Caradonna at town clerk/tax collector and Brenda Blonigen as police commission member. Cosmos Iocovozzi was elected cemetery trustee by write-in. Elected unopposed to the Planning Board were Russell Cooke and Christopher Cross.

Jeremy Boston and Brian Semprini took seats on the School Board, and Doreen Caradonna was elected school district clerk.

The second part of the 2023 town and school meetings, where warrant articles and the operating budget will be decided, will be held Saturday, March 18 at Town Hall. The town School District meeting is set for 10 a.m., followed by Town Meeting at 10:30 a.m.

The lone article for school district voters on Saturday is a $2.6 million operating budget. The town operating budget of $8.47 million is set to be voted on at Town Meeting.
