Rye senior Brock Benz headlines Pueblo-area players on Colorado's all-state baseball teams

Led by Rye High School senior Brock Benz, eight Pueblo-area players have been named to the Colorado High School Activities Association's 2022 all-state baseball teams.

The teams were voted on by the leagues and the state's high school baseball coaches.

Benz, a shortstop/pitcher, helped lead the Thunderbolts to the Class 2A Final Four this past spring. He was named to the 2A first team.

Joining Benz on the 2A team from Rye is senior infielder/pitcher Ben Compton, who was selected to the honorable mention team.

Five Pueblo players were selected to the Class 4A honorable mention team, including Pueblo Central sophomores Ethan Ayala and Zach Mehess. Ayala is a second baseman/shortstop/pitcher, while Mehess is a shortstop/pitcher.

Pueblo County also had two players named honorable mention: senior Jace Barger and Derick Domenico. Barger was a center fielder/pitcher, while Domenico was a shortstop/pitcher.

Also named to the team was junior Michael Casillas from Pueblo East, a shortstop/pitcher.

The lone Class 5A player making the all-state team was Pueblo West senior Jeremiah Sanchez. The Cyclones' center fielder/pitcher was the South-Central League's most valuable player.
