Rylan Clark opens up about joining The Archers for special guest role

Celebrity Gogglebox and Strictly: It Takes Two star Rylan Clark has opened up about joining The Archers for a special guest role. Appearing in an episode of the beloved Radio 4 soap, Rylan is set to be involved in a Eurovision Song Contest themed episode.

In the episode, Rylan will star as himself, stopping off in the village of Ambridge where he will judge the fictional village's Eurovision Variety Show before he heads off to Liverpool for official Eurovision duties.

Sharing in a statement (via The Independent), Rylan said he was looking forward to donning a pair of wellies for his guest appearance while teasing a dramatic special episode.

"I'm looking forward to getting my wellies on and checking out what Eurovision excitement Ambridge's residents have to offer as I pop into the iconic Archers," Rylan said. "I've seen some drama throughout my time but nothing compares to what's about to unfold in Ambridge."

Opening up about Rylan's cameo in the long-running radio show, The Archers editor Jeremy Howe said that the former X Factor star's radio debut is adding to Eurovision hype.

"We're delighted to have Rylan stop over in Ambridge for his Archers radio debut," Howe said. "It's been a real treat welcoming him to the programme and it's certainly brought Eurovision fever pitch to new heights."

Airing a day before the Eurovision live final on Saturday, May 13, Rylan's special Archers episode will be broadcast on Friday, May 12.

For the first time ever, the Eurovision Semi-Finals will be broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer with Rylan taking on the commentating role alongside Scott Mills. This year's Eurovision will take place in Liverpool, where the UK will host on behalf of last year's winners Ukraine.

Graham Norton is set to host the show (as well as commentate) alongside Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, Britain's Got Talent's Alesha Dixon and Ukrainian musician Julia Sanina.
