Rylan has opened up about being twice admitted to a psychiatric hospital after attempting to take his own life.
Talking to The Sunday Times Magazine the TV presenter detailed how his split from husband Dan Neal left him in a desperate place: "I went through this period where I was annoyed that I'd wake up."
Rylan also talked about how his mental health affected him physically as he stopped eating: "I went into this thing called SVT [Supraventricular tachycardia], where my heart rate was way over double.
And it just wouldn't stop. It feels like a different person, now, that I'm talking about. I did not know who I was for that five months."
He then confessed that he did attempt suicide after his relationship with Neal ended last year: "I did [try to end my life] — unsuccessfully, luckily. I suppose it's the easy way out, but I just could not see another way. I genuinely felt like the world was against me."
The former X Factor star has also recently released an autobiography entitled Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future about his rise to fame after appearing on the talent contest.
In the book, he also discusses his split with Neal and the mental health issues it caused.
He wrote: "For the first time in my 32 years, I felt I couldn't carry on no more. What's the point? I thought. I'd lost what I thought was everything, the one thing I always wanted. A man I loved. A family of my own. And now it was gone. So I tried to end it. I won't go into detail as I don't think it's fair on my mum, but thank God I was unsuccessful."
Since starring on The X Factor, Rylan has become a popular face on television, hosting the revivals of Supermarket Sweep and Ready Steady Cook, regularly appearing on This Morning and starring on Celebrity Gogglebox.
