Sabres acquire Eric Staal from Wild for Marcus Johansson
The Buffalo Sabres have acquired Eric Staal from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Marcus Johansson.
Staal recorded 19 goals and 47 points in 66 games in 2019-20, while Johansson notched nine goals and 30 points in 60 games.
Neither team will retain salary in the trade, with both players in the final years of their existing contracts.
No salary retained in the Staal-Johansson trade. Staal carries a $3.25 M AAV and Johansson is at $4.5 million

This is the first major move by the Sabres since Keyvn Adams was named general manager in June. Staal was named to the All-Star game for the sixth time in his career this season.
The 35-year-old centre will immediately figure into the Sabres’ top-six forward group, and should receive power play time on an offense that has largely being propelled by Jack Eichel’s singular heroics.
