Here are the top four stories today in Sachem:

  1. Suffolk County's seven-day coronavirus positivity rate hit 13.6 percent this week, Executive Steve Bellone said on Tuesday. The omicron variant is driving the highest rates since early in the pandemic, triggering long lines at COVID-19 testing sites. (Patch)

  2. New York's Attorney General is warning people to look out for price gauging on at-home COVID-19 tests. Letitia James said her office has been receiving complaints as New Yorkers scramble for the tests. (Patch)

  3. Amanda Stallone, a physical education teacher at Cayuga Elementary School in the Sachem Central School District received the 2021 Amazing Person for the Technology Section of New York at the 83rd annual New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Conference (NYSAHPERD) in November.   4. The 1990s rock band Spin Doctors will headline a musical lineup including the Crash Test Dummies and The Smithereens at the 2022 May Day Music Festival at Southaven Park in Yaphank on May 14, 2022. (Patch)

  • Nine-year-old Sydney O'Sullivan from Holbrook loaded toys onto a stretcher decorated to look like Santa Claus' sleigh at Stony Brook Children's Hospital on Friday, an idea she had when she was in the hospital this year. (Patch)

  • Connetquot Centra School District announced the appointment of Christina Poppe as interim assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction on Dec. 14. (Connetquot Central School District)
