Sachuest Point shines as National Wildlife Refuges photo contest winners announced

The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island announced the winners of their 23^rd  annual amateur photo competition.

Contestants were asked to submit photos taken on one of the five National Wildlife Refuges in Rhode Island. The Refuges are Ninigret NWR in Charlestown, Trustom Pond NWR in South Kingstown, John H. Chafee NWR at Pettaquamscutt Cove in South Kingstown and Narragansett, Sachuest Point NWR in Middletown and Block Island NWR.

The “Best of Show” has been awarded to “Solitude” taken by Alison Lohrum of Newport, at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge.

The winners in the four different categories are:

Wildlife:

1^st place: “Color Coordinated” by Skylar Dunn of Pawtucket, taken at Sachuest Point NWR

2^nd place: “Blue Bill Cleared for Takeoff” by Stephen Wood of Wakefield, taken at Trustom Pond NWR

3^rd place: “Caught in the Act” by Skylar Dunn of Pawtucket, taken at Sachuest Point NWR

Flora

1^st place: “Sunflower Parade” by Pam Marsden of Bristol, taken at Sachuest Point NWR

2^nd place: “Eastern Skunk Cabbage” by Stephen Wood of Wakefield, taken at Trustom Pond NWR

3^rd place: “Pollinator Friendly” by Carmen Rugel of Middletown, taken at Trustom Pond NWR

Wildlife Habitat/Landscape

1^st place: “Ninigret Pond Sunrise” by Millie White of Westerly, taken at Ninigret NWR

2^nd place: “Quiet Evening” by Alison Lohrum of Newport, taken at Sachuest Point NWR

3^rd place: “Water Snake” by Carmen Rugel of Middletown, taken at Trustom Pond NWR
