Sachuest Point shines as National Wildlife Refuges photo contest winners announced
The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island announced the winners of their 23rd annual amateur photo competition.
Contestants were asked to submit photos taken on one of the five National Wildlife Refuges in Rhode Island. The Refuges are Ninigret NWR in Charlestown, Trustom Pond NWR in South Kingstown, John H. Chafee NWR at Pettaquamscutt Cove in South Kingstown and Narragansett, Sachuest Point NWR in Middletown and Block Island NWR.
The “Best of Show” has been awarded to “Solitude” taken by Alison Lohrum of Newport, at Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge.
The winners in the four different categories are:
Wildlife:
1st place: “Color Coordinated” by Skylar Dunn of Pawtucket, taken at Sachuest Point NWR
2nd place: “Blue Bill Cleared for Takeoff” by Stephen Wood of Wakefield, taken at Trustom Pond NWR
3rd place: “Caught in the Act” by Skylar Dunn of Pawtucket, taken at Sachuest Point NWR
Flora
1st place: “Sunflower Parade” by Pam Marsden of Bristol, taken at Sachuest Point NWR
2nd place: “Eastern Skunk Cabbage” by Stephen Wood of Wakefield, taken at Trustom Pond NWR
3rd place: “Pollinator Friendly” by Carmen Rugel of Middletown, taken at Trustom Pond NWR
Wildlife Habitat/Landscape
1st place: “Ninigret Pond Sunrise” by Millie White of Westerly, taken at Ninigret NWR
2nd place: “Quiet Evening” by Alison Lohrum of Newport, taken at Sachuest Point NWR
3rd place: “Water Snake” by Carmen Rugel of Middletown, taken at Trustom Pond NWR
