Sacramento area has 2 of the best doughnut shops in US, Yelp says — including the top pick

The Sacramento area is home to two of the nation’s top doughnut shops, according to Yelp’s “Top 100 U.S. Donut Shops 2023” list.

For the second year now, the review-based website compiled a guide based on trends from its Yelp community. Some trends it spotted this year were “outrageous toppings” like bacon bits and marshmallows, solid classic doughnuts and any other unique treats.

It’s no question that the fluffy, sweet treats are hard to resist. If you want to get your hands on one of the best doughnuts in town, here’s who made the list in the Sacramento area:

Rocklin Donuts & Cinnamon

Placing first on the Yelp’s top 100 list is Rocklin Donuts & Cinnamon shop. The family owned store opened in 2022 and since then has been a “staple” in the community, according to Yelp. Here’s where you can find them:

Location: 4845 Granite Dr., Rocklin

Hours: Open daily from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What’s it known for?: The cinnamon rolls are a staple at this Sacramento area doughnut shop, according to Yelp reviews. You can also find classics like glazed doughnuts, bars and twists.

Marie’s Donuts

Not very far down the list, Marie’s Donuts in Curtis Park placed 17, on Yelp’s 100 list. Another family-owned doughnut shop that’s loved by Yelp reviewers. Pro tip: arrive early on the weekends because there is usually a line. Here’s where you can find them:

Location: 2959 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento

Hours: Open 24 hours on Monday, then from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. all other days

What’s it known for?: It’s popular for it’s “old school prices” and classic doughnuts, according to Yelp reviews.
