Sacramento-area Japanese restaurant is closing due to ‘rising costs.’ When’s the last day?

A Sacramento-area Japanese restaurant is closing at the end of the month due to financial reasons.

Aji Japanese Bistro is at 4361 Town Center Blvd No. 111, in El Dorado Hills.

The restaurant’s last day at the El Dorado Hills Town Center will be Friday, May 31, representatives announced on social media.

“We have tried so hard to make it work but with the rising costs we have been left with the sad decision to close,” the team at Aji said in its online post. “We are so grateful for our amazing community for all the support we have received throughout the years.”

In 2017, restaurant owner Russell Okubo planned to expand the Aji brand with a new location at the UV in Arden Arcade, formerly known as University Village. Plans fell through in 2019, The Sacramento Bee reported at the time.

Okubo partnered with the owner of now-closed Sacramento restaurant Takata-Ya to open a new eatery, Aji Dori, at 1100 R St. in Sacramento in 2019. Aji Dori closed indefinitely in August 2020, The Bee reported.

In light of the closure of Aji Japanese Bistro, the team asked people to not reach out to Okubo and “respect his privacy during this time.”

What’s on the menu at Japanese restaurant in El Dorado Hills?

Aji Japanese Bistro serves seasonal menus featuring so-called “street foods” such as Korean-style short rib tacos, Japanese barbeque ribs and braised pork belly buns.

Aji’s other food offerings include ramen, udon, a raw bar and sushi rolls.

When is Aji Japanese Bistro open?

Until it closes permanently, the restaurant will be open during regular business hours: from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
