Sacramento-area phone store damaged after car crashes through entrance, firefighters say

A cellphone store in Arden Arcade was damaged Tuesday evening after a car crashed into it, leaving a large hole in an exterior wall, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said.

Firefighters responded at 6:59 p.m. to the 2400 block of Marconi Avenue between Wright Street and Fulton Avenue after receiving reports of an auto crashing into a shopping center, said Capt. Parker Wilbourn, spokesman for the Fire District. The strip mall houses the Metro by T-Mobile store that was damaged, as well as a doughnut store, pizzeria and liquor store that were not damaged.

In photos provided by firefighters, the vehicle appears to have plowed through the structure in reverse, entering the store’s showroom and ramming into a back wall, damaging two vehicles parked behind the building.

The driver had minor injuries, Wilbourn said, but no one else was injured.

It was unclear how the crash occurred; the California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento office did not respond to a message about the incident Tuesday night.
