The beam is lit.
The Kings calmed the nerves of many fans Friday with a dominant Game 6 road win over the Golden State Warriors, 118-99. Sacramento led for the entire second half.
What has been a wildly entertaining first-round playoff series will continue Sunday with a winner-take-all Game 7 in Sacramento, 12:30 p.m. at Golden 1 Center.
“I don’t know how many miles out we’ll be able to see the beam, but it’ll be lit,” ESPN play-by-play commentator Mike Breen said with 3:45 left in the game, as Warriors coach Steve Kerr started sending his starters to the bench with the Kings up by 19. “And the fans will be ready for what will be an unbelievable atmosphere on Sunday.”
Kings guard Malik Monk had a huge game at Chase Center on Friday, scoring 28 of the team’s 52 bench points. De’Aaron Fox added 26 points. Rookie Keegan Murray had 15.
“We just had to come down and keep our composure,” Monk said in a postgame interview with NBC Sports California.
There were some moments of contention, including an elbow to the face of Domantas Sabonis in the second quarter that went uncalled by the refs, but fans ended the evening delighted by their Beam Team.
“Sunday, light it up, be there,” Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé exclaimed into the camera on the NBC Sports California broadcast as the clock ticked down to zero.
Here’s some of what fans, as well as the Kings social media team as well as Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, were posting on social media as they celebrated one of the most important wins in franchise history.
I would argue that is the most important road win in @SacramentoKings history. #nbaplayoffs

Terrific job by the Kings staying poised under pressure in an elimination game. Role players Monk, Lyles & Murray were outstanding and provided support to De'Aaron on a night when their All-Star center couldn't get it going. Game 7 will be one for the books!!
