Sacramento County coroner seeks help identifying young man found last month in Zapata Park

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office on Thursday asked for help from the public in identifying a young man who was found in a park last month and unable to communicate before he died six days later.

On Nov. 11, the unidentified man was found on the ground at Zapata Park, 905 E St. in the Alkali Flat neighborhood just north of downtown in Sacramento. He was in an altered state of consciousness and unable to communicate, officials said in a news release.

He was taken to Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, where he died Nov. 17. The cause and manner of his death had not been determined; coroner officials were awaiting results from further ancillary tests, according to the news release.

Authorities searched the area and the man’s belongings, but the Coroner’s Office has not been able to identify him and notify his family of his death.

The Coroner’s Office estimated the man’s age to be 18 to 25 years old, and appears to be Black. He weighed 155 pounds and was about 5-foot-8 with brown eyes and short, black curly hair, according to the news release. He had no tattoos on his body, and he had possible acne marks or scars on his forehead and nose.

Hoping someone recognizes him, coroner officials released a sketch of the young man’s face, along with photos of his clothing and shoes.

Authorities asked anyone with information about his identity to call the Coroner’s Office at 916-874-9320 or send an email to DeputyCoroner@saccounty.gov.
