Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office donates 136 ballistic vests to aid Ukranian war effort

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office donated 136 ballistic vests to Ukraine officials on Friday to aid in the Ukranian war effort, according to the department.

A Facebook post from the agency said Sheriff Scott Jones and Undersheriff Jim Barnes donated the vests to Consul General Dmytro Kushneruk from the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco.

The vests will be given to the “vulnerable and unprotected chaplains and evacuation volunteers doing the dangerous and critical work,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

They vests have an expiration date when they are no longer guaranteed 100% effective by the manufacturer, according to the sheriff’s office. The donated surplus vests are still effective, but no longer usable by the department.

“Fortunately they can still be used in a meaningful way,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “More vests mean more lives saved.”

The sheriff’s office said donating the ballistic vests is a “small part they can play in helping protect the innocent in Ukraine.”
