Sacramento County Sheriff responds to vandalism after protests

Sheriff Jones said in a news conference Friday he believes the violence won’t stop until law enforcement steps in with a strong response. He said he was stunned to see what unfolded in Sacramento on Thursday night, and felt officers should have done more to shut down the protest once it became violent. Jones said he hopes the National Guard will be called in, similar to how they were called in with the George Floyd protests earlier in the year. He said he will also send in his own deputies if needed. He does not believe it is a First Amendment issue, and that those that are looting and causing destruction are not trying to send a message about racial equality.
