Sacramento Police says ‘accidental discharge’ led to Arden Fair Mall shooting, one person hurt

(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento Police has said a shooting did take place at the Arden Fair Mall on Saturday evening, but that it was an accidental discharge.

Police said they have cleared the scene at Arden Fair Mall after receiving reports of gunshots around the area. One person is dealing with minor injuries and there is currently no suspect information.

Around 6:53 p.m., officials said that they received “numerous” calls from people saying they heard gunshots and people yelling.

Authorities added that the incident happened inside of the mall around JC Penney.

Police said that a “small area on the second floor” was closed, but normal operations have since resumed.

Sacramento Police have released a statement on this incident, saying, “These types of incidents are extremely complex and rapidly evolving. Information in these types of incidents often change over time. The swift response to tonight’s incident would not have been possible without the collaboration and support from Arden Fair Mall security and its staff. We will continue to partner with them to ensure the safety of those who are shopping in the Arden fair mall as the holidays fast approach.”

Police also said that they will not be releasing any suspect information to “protect the integrity of this investigation.”
