Sacramento police to run a DUI checkpoint this weekend. Here’s where and when

The Sacramento Police Department will set up a DUI checkpoint in downtown Sacramento Friday, heading into the long weekend, the department announced in a news release.

The checkpoint will be in the area of 21st Street near Capitol Ave from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests,” the department stated. “The primary purpose of the checkpoint is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.”

The department is warning people that impaired driving is not just from alcohol or drugs. It can be due to marijuana or prescription and over-the-counter drugs. If you plan on taking any medications or drinking, you should plan on staying home.

Otherwise, if you’re charged with a DUI, you’ll face a fine of about $13,500 and a suspended license.

California Highway Patrol also plans a sobriety checkpoint Friday near Woodland. It will be on westbound Highway 16 near County Road 97 form 6 to 10 p.m., the Davis Enterprise reported.
