Sacramento Thai restaurant reopens after cockroach infestation, latest report says

East Sacramento’s T.H.A.I. — The House of Authentic Ingredients reopened Friday after a cockroach infestation closed the restaurant for more than a week, according to Sacramento County health inspection reports.

The neighborhood Thai food spot passed an Environmental Management Department reinspection on Thursday, one of six since it was ordered to close on Sept. 13.

Co-owner Ann Devahasdin told The Bee she would like to express her “sincere apologies to what happened.”

“I would like to give (the community) our confidence that we ensure them that everything is back to the highest standard,” she said when asked what she would like her customers to know after the failed inspections.

According to the latest report, on Thursday inspectors found one German cockroach nymph inside a mop sink, which was eliminated at the time of inspection. While one dead and one “slow moving” cockroach were also found, inspectors deemed the infestation under control. The county will reinspect within seven days to “verify continued abatement,” according to the Sept. 21 report.

“The inspection will be unannounced,” said Ken Casparis, a spokesman for the county.

The restaurant reopened Friday at 11 a.m. and will continue to operate under its normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“I’m not a careless person you know; I’m a restaurant owner, but also I’m a customer myself,” Devahasdin said. “I eat at my own place, I eat at my restaurant, too. So whatever I tried to serve them is whatever I have (for) myself and my kids.”

Equipment at the restaurant has been changed and old equipment has been thrown out; there is an organization of food storage and there is a cleaning schedule in place, Devahasdin said.

The last pest control treatment before Thursday’s inspection was Tuesday, and professionals were arriving again as inspectors finished the visit, the report states.
