LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to travel to Las Vegas on Monday, April 15, according to the White House.

Harris will highlight the impact of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Details of her arrival time at Harry Reid International Airport and where she will be in Las Vegas have not been released.

The legislation passed in 2022 following an elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Efforts to control gun violence through laws have often landed in court. Today, The Associated Press reported that thousands of firearms dealers will have to run background checks on buyers at gun shows as a Biden administration rule goes into effect.

Las Vegas provides a backdrop for discussions on gun control six and a half years after a gunman killed 58 people attending a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Two additional deaths have since been attributed to the 1 October shooting, carried out by Stephen Paddock, who killed himself afterward in a Mandalay Bay hotel room.

It’s the fourth trip to Las Vegas this year by the vice president.
