BREMERTON — A Navy sailor assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt was found dead on the ship on Monday.

The sailor was found unresponsive on the ship, currently docked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Efforts to revive the sailor were unsuccessful and the sailor was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lt. Cmdr. Ben Anderson, USS Theodore Roosevelt spokesperson.

Sailors were given grief and counseling services, Anderson said. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is ongoing.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt is wrapping up work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after it arrived in Bremerton in July 2021 for overhaul. The aircraft carrier is slated to return to its previous homeport of San Diego in February.
