Saint Joseph Berea nationally recognized With five-star ratings for physician and nurse communication

Aug. 22—Saint Joseph Berea received a five-star rating for both physician and nurse communication by Becker's Hospital Review, the leading magazine for hospital business news and analysis. Saint Joseph Berea was one of only two Kentucky hospitals that received five-star recognition for nurse communication, and one of four Kentucky hospitals that earned five-star physician communication.

Becker's compiled a list of the best hospitals for physician and nurse communication in each state using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) data provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). HCAHPS data is collected by a national, standardized survey of hospital patients about their experiences during a recent inpatient stay. Based on this data, Saint Joseph Berea also made the Becker's list of hospitals patients are most likely to recommend in every state.

"Ensuring our patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment plan is one of our top priorities," said John Yanes, president, Saint Joseph Berea. "We are proud to be recognized by Becker's Hospital Review for our excellent physician and nurse communication. This wouldn't be possible without our team of exceptional caregivers."

The star ratings are based on survey data collected from hospital patients from July 2021 through June 2022. Each star rating combines data from three HCAHPS survey questions and summarizes how well patients feel that their nurses/physicians explained things clearly, listened carefully to the patient, and treated the patient with courtesy and respect.

Becker's awarded five-star ratings for physician communication to 347 hospitals and five-star ratings for nurse communication to 364 hospitals nationwide.
