Saint Mark's standout leads Delaware All-State girls soccer team

Saint Mark’s Maddie Schepers is the Player of the Year and leads the All-State girls soccer team recently selected by the Delaware High School Girls Soccer Coaches Association.

Schepers, a senior who has signed with the University of Delaware, scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute as the Spartans outlasted Caravel 2-1 in the championship game of the DIAA Division I Girls Soccer Tournament on June 3. She finished her high school career with 107 goals.

Schepers has also been named a National All-American. Joining her on the Top XI team are Regional All-Americans Gabby Riley of Middletown, Nicole Rankin of Caravel, Haley Dougherty of Padua, Sydney Donovan of Appoquinimink and Emma Gioffre of Archmere.

The other members of the Top XI team are Ryan Munday of Charter of Wilmington, Desiree Zapata of Smyrna, Lilly Short of Sussex Tech, Riley Pinato of Caravel and Tyla Walker of Middletown.

Todd Lehman of Delcastle was voted the Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to a 13-2-1 season and a berth in the DIAA Division I tournament.

Lehman was also named Large Schools Coach of the Year, with Ally Taylor of Newark Charter earning the Small Schools honor and Marisa Muller of Sanford taking the Private/Parochial honor.

SPARTANS WIN: Schepers' late strike gives Saint Mark's Division II girls soccer title

Richard Griffiths of Conrad was named the Pat Williams Assistant Coach of the Year after helping the Red Wolves to an 8-6-1 finish.

Josh Rickner of St. Georges is the Large Schools Assistant Coach of the Year, with Griffiths winning among Small Schools and Dave DuHadaway of Caravel earning the Private/Parochial honor.
