Saints kicker says he was stopped by security after game-winning field goal vs. Chiefs

We were thisclose to having a Three Wise Monkeys moment on the Chiefs’ sideline Sunday during KC’s 26-24 loss to the Saints in a preseason game.

The Chiefs, holding a one-point lead, were running down the clock when the Saints’ Kyle Phillips made a really nice play, intercepting a screen pass by the Chiefs’ Chris Oladokun.

That set up the Saints for a game-winning field goal as time expired, and led to a hilarious reaction on the Chiefs sideline.

Receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling covered his eyes and quarterback Patrick Mahomes covered his ears upon seeing the interception. If linebacker Drue Tranquill had put his hands over his mouth, we would have had the “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” proverb in real life. That’s known as the Three Wise Monkeys.

Rookie kicker Blake Grupe drilled the game-winning 31-yard field goal for the Saints, and it was part of his interesting day.

Grupe, who played at Notre Dame and Arkansas State, is trying to unseat Will Lutz as the Saints kicker. He also apparently is an unfamiliar face to security personnel at the Superdome.

This is what Grupe shared on Twitter after Sunday’s game.:

“Step 1: get questioned walking onto the field pregame for not having credentials

“Step 2: hit a game winner

“Step 3: get stopped by security thinking I was a fan when trying to walk out the player exit”

That’s some strict security in the Big Easy.
