Salad kit recalled from Kansas Walmarts over listeria risk

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning people to avoid eating salad kits which may contain harmful food borne disease.

The FDA say Taylor Fresh Foods of Salinas, California has voluntarily recalled its Marketside Bacon Ranch Crunch Salad Kit as it contains cheese which could be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. This is part of an expanded recall from Rizo-López Foods, Inc.

Listeria can cause serious and even life-threatening infections in young children, frail or older adults and those who have weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms like a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can also lead to stillbirths and miscarriages among pregnant women.
