Salem Academy volleyball player Aly Herber wins Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week

Salem Academy volleyball player Aly Herber is the Statesman Journal's Athlete of the Week.

Herber won the newspaper's poll for top area athletes, which is voted on by readers.

At the time of the poll, she had 281 kills, 145 digs and 36 aces.

Here is a look at this week’s other nominees.

Sara Abbott, Sprague cross-country: She ran an 18:23.2 on Sept. 16 at the Meriwether CC Classic, which is the top Central Valley Conference time this season.

Steven Ward, Dallas football: He had seven tackles, four tackles for a loss, four sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Hudson Brunk, McNary boys soccer: As of Monday, he had nine goals and five assists in six matches.
