Dodging the 6.25% state sales tax will be easy Saturday and Sunday.

It's the annual tax-free weekend in Massachusetts for big-ticket items such as washing machines and bicycles.

The waiving of the sales tax for two days became an annual event after a 2018 vote by the Legislature.

The tax holiday is for items under $2,500 and does not apply to purchases of cars, meals and marijuana, among certain other goods. Sales tax is also waived for online purchases during the two-day period.

All businesses are required to participate in the tax holiday. Purchases above $2,500 are taxed on the entire amount, not just the amount above the threshold.
