Salina South 2022 seniors graduate, anticipating the future
As the 2022 graduates of Salina South High School celebrated their commencement Sunday evening, they were reminded of how fortunate they are to have succeeded.
Going through high school during a pandemic was not an easy task, and Principal Charles Kipp thanked the graduates for the ways they navigated through changes and uncertainty.
"I think the best word to describe being here today is fortunate," Kipp said. "We are fortunate to have the opportunity to celebrate together as a family, a school and a community."
Graduate Jennifer Nguyen gave remarks on behalf of and to her fellow students. Nguyen said she was proud of how this class made it this far.
"I'm honored to be here and so proud of my fellow classmates who've worked so hard to overcome the difficulties of high school," Nguyen said.
Nguyen gave an account of what the past year was like for the seniors as though they were chapters of a book, complete with memories including the last first day of class and football games on Friday nights. She ended this however, by looking toward the future.
"Honestly, I'm not sure what the chapter will be like," Nguyen said. "I wish I could find the book on Amazon...read the reviews and find the spoiler, but it's not possible.
She said it may seem overwhelming to not know what's ahead, but she also believes that these memories and experiences at South High have prepared this class for what's ahead.
"No matter where you go or what you become, it was always a great day to be a Cougar," Nguyen said.
